Location & Scan Alert Privacy

Last updated: 26 September 2026

This page applies to the current free demonstration. Real owner accounts, payments and scan alerts are not active.

Your choice comes first

Finder location is optional. A finder must choose to share and give the required browser/device permission before precise location is obtained. Refusing, dismissing or revoking location permission must not stop the pet profile, CALL OWNER or SMS OWNER functions.

What happens in Buddy’s demo

The SHARE SCAN LOCATION button displays an explanation only. This demo does not call the browser’s location service, ask for location permission, store coordinates or send an owner alert. The Call and SMS buttons remain available independently. Website hosting records are separate from a pet owner’s scan-alert system.

How a live feature must be presented

Before any real sharing starts, the finder must be told what will be sent, why, who receives it and the relevant retention period. A scan alert may include the relevant pet ID and scan time; precise coordinates or a map link may be added only after the finder chooses and grants permission. Opening a profile by itself must not be described as consent to precise location sharing.

Refusal, errors and withdrawal

If permission is refused, a device cannot find its position or location times out, the finder must still be able to view the pet and use the available contact actions. Permission can be changed in browser/device settings. Withdrawing permission prevents later access; it cannot recall information already sent to a recipient. The current demo sends none.

Accuracy and recipients

A device location is an estimate of where the finder’s device is at that moment, not proof of the animal’s position or ownership. A future alert should go only to the intended owner or authorised recipient and the service providers needed to deliver it. Continuous tracking or a publicly visible finder-location history is not part of this demo.

Technical data is different

IP addresses and request information may be processed by hosting and security services to deliver and protect the page, even when precise location is not shared. This is explained in the Privacy Policy and must not be confused with permission to obtain device coordinates.

Questions and future activation

For a privacy concern or a request concerning support correspondence, contact support@expat-smart.com with the subject ‘Scan My Pet ID — Location privacy’. A real scan-alert service will require an updated notice describing its actual recipients, storage, retention and controls before activation.
